What Are Hydraulic Components?
Hydraulic components are the internal wear parts that make up the core of hydraulic pumps, swing motors, and travel motors. Over time, these parts wear out due to high pressure, heat, and contamination — requiring replacement to restore the machine's performance.
Common hydraulic components include cylinder blocks (pump barrels), plungers/pistons, valve plates, swash plates, piston shoes, retraction plates, drive shafts, bearings, ball guides, and complete seal/repair kits. These parts are available individually or as part of a full overhaul kit for major pump and motor models.
Common Hydraulic Pump Components
Cylinder Block
Also called pump barrel or rotating group. Houses multiple pistons in a cylindrical arrangement and rotates with the drive shaft to create pumping action.
Piston / Plunger
Reciprocating elements that slide within the cylinder block bores. Their motion draws in and expels hydraulic fluid under high pressure.
Valve Plate
Distributes high-pressure oil between the inlet and outlet ports as the cylinder block rotates. A critical sealing component that directly affects pump efficiency.
Swash Plate
Angled plate that controls the stroke length of the pistons. Changing the swash plate angle varies the pump displacement and output flow.
Piston Shoe
A slipper bearing that connects the piston to the swash plate. It slides across the swash plate surface, enabling smooth piston reciprocation.
Retainer / Retraction Plate
Holds the piston shoes firmly against the swash plate surface, preventing separation during high-speed rotation and maintaining pump efficiency.
Drive Shaft
Transmits mechanical power from the engine or motor to the rotating group. Splined shafts ensure positive torque transfer without slippage.
Bearings
Support the rotating assembly within the pump housing. Includes large and small tapered roller bearings that handle both radial and axial loads.
Repair Kit / Seal Kit
Complete sets of O-rings, gaskets, seals, and backup rings needed for a full pump or motor overhaul. Ensures leak-free reassembly and reliable operation.
Swing Motor & Travel Motor Components
Swing motors and travel motors also contain internal components that require periodic replacement. These include cylinder blocks, pistons, valve plates, and shaft assemblies specific to each motor model.
Additional motor-specific components include brake pistons, friction plates, brake springs, relief valves, and damping valves. The brake assembly inside a swing motor is critical for safe parking and smooth stopping of the cab rotation.
